Hidden ears overheard the conversation Elena had just moments before her death. Humans were constantly wondering about things. What If? Was a common phrase. If they knew, if they didn't know, if they had only. It was a game they seemed to play, one with no end. For the Fae, living under the fairy hill at the base of Wickery bridge, it was a great game to play. After all, humans, vampires, they made the best entertainment.
So now here we are back at the beginning. Fall has come and school is about to start. Elena and her brother Jeremy are now living with their Aunt Jenna. Elena remembers the mysterious dark stranger she spoke with that night she broke up with Matt. She also remembers some man saving her, and not her parents, from the icy water. She hasn't seen either since but they have been on her mind. For now, it's about a new school year, starting over. Trying to keep her brother clean, spend time with her friends Bonnie and Caroline. Try to get back to a normal life. Of course, normal was never in the cards. Especially when the Salvatore brothers decide to take up residence and the Fae walk among us to watch their game unfold.
