Shawn seems to be built from winter-cold stone. He is very pragmatic, and prefers a no-nonsense approach to everything and he doesn’t suffer fools gladly. He rarely displays unneeded emotion on his face, although he can be quite open to disapproval or even anger, although the latter does cause sheer panic to his subordinates. He doesn’t like things being dragged out, and prefers everything dealt with efficiently and properly. Living true to the Machiavellian values, everything that must be done should be done, no matter the consequences and no matter the methods. This makes for times when Shawn seems to be heartless but it is quite obvious that he couldn’t care less.
He is intellectually formidable and is a master tactician and a highly skilled planner and organizer. As a task master, he is harsh and demanding…very reminiscent of how his father was to him. He will not hesitate to punish underlings under his control for their failures, or even for their successes that didn’t come as quickly as he would have preferred. However, he does have a softer spot for Sophie, as she is very efficient, and she has served him unerringly for most of his life.
Contrasting to his demeanor, as a ruthless crime boss and a wielder of dark magic, he is actually quite the loving brother. Shawn can always seem emotionless to everyone else, but when it comes to Merrit, he has a genuine concern for her well being and a want for Merrit to have the best of everything.

Magical Ability -Shawn is able to cast spells both by mouth and by thought. As a half-demon he is a potent spell caster and can perform them with the speed and alacrity of a soldier with a gun. He was trained from childhood in a harsh and demanding manner, but the result was his proficiency…especially in dark types of magic. He is also able to take on a demonic form, one where he is a horned creature of fire and shadow.

Systema – As part of his father’s forced training on him, he was required to learn the martial art. It was developed by the early Cossacks more than a thousand years ago, with historical record of this fighting style dating to 948AD. For Centuries Russia had to repel invaders from the north, south, east and west. Training includes hand to hand combat, grappling, knife fighting, sword fighting, lance fighting and fire arms training as well. It focuses mainly on controlling the six body levers (elbows, neck, knees, waist, ankles, and shoulders) through pressure point application, striking and weapon applications. Shawn has been training in this discipline as a boy, and is quite the deadly fighter, especially when combined with his near-encyclopedic knowledge of human anatomy. His weakness with this skill is that he has been training only for a shorter time than when compared to the other Devauld’s.

Bio:
Shawn was born in St. Petersberg Russia as the son to Jarrod Devauld and the Russian mafia princess Petrovna Rasumovzky, before moving back to the states. As the heir to the crime family, he was brought up under the Devauld household from a very early age, and he easily imbibed all the values of the family. His proficiency as a sorcerer was also identified early on and he was trained under the severe tutelage of his father. Jarrod was a harsh taskmaster, who viewed his son as little more than a weapon to be used by the family. His training methods were the main source of Shawn’s steel-tempered personality and ruthless ferocity.
Shawn’s childhood, was a story wrought by the whip of his father, and the torn and bloody life of the criminal underground. He was first imprisoned at sixteen, when he robbed a bank. His father didn’t pay for his bail, so that he would learn the price of failure, and Jarrod believed that the prisons would further temper his son into a stronger weapon. The former crime lord’s plan was successful, as Shawn became more ingrained with the criminal underground, and the prison cell was where he was able to imbibe more of the traits that would forge his person.
He left the prison a much harder man, after spending three years inside. When he got out, he showed more prowess as a ruthless killer, and earned his keep as a Contractor in the criminal underworld. Jarrod, began his expansion scheme soon after, and Shawn lead his own brigades.
When he was twenty-three, he was finally called back to Russia as his father was shot down in cold blood by assassins from the Balagula crime family. Shawn stepped up as the new head of the Devauld family, and wasted no time in making a name for him. He and his original team, charged into the Balagula hideout, and the resulting battle left over a hundred dead with Shawn back in prison, and the Balagula family utterly annihilated. This didn’t stop Shawn however, as he controlled the workings of Devauld from inside the prison, and he also recruited many more criminals into his cause. He orchestrated the largest escape from the prison, and using magic disposed of all evidence and charges against, effectively circumventing the government proofs that he had ever been, and should ever be in prison.
Shawn’s natural knack for business, assured the conglomerate’s rise to power. The intense success of the legitimate company didn’t make Shawn pull the Devauld family out of crime however. His business tactics were ruthless and aggressive, he pushed many of his competitors to bankruptcy and many of them committed suicide, thus earning Shawn the nickname “The Hangman of the Business World”. He became a multi billionaire and joined the ranks of the most powerful – and notoriously dangerous- men in the world.

The room was considerably well-lit, but some malevolent presence seemed to make it darker than it really was. It could have been something psychological in nature, but then again a lot of things could be attributed to Shawn's...more devilish heritage. Either way, he simply sat there on the high-backed chair of red velvet, the heavy wooden table before him, carved with disturbing images. Shawn himself was quite imposing, dressed in a dark pinstripe suit, his hair slicked back and his fingers creating a pyramid of contemplation.
His eyes, black as coals seemed to bore deep into the soul of the person on the other side of the desk. Once again, it could have been purely psychological...but many things could be attributed to Shawn's...more devilish heritage.
"I tire of your excuses." said Shawn in a voice cold as the arctic circle. There was no tinge of anger in it...but that seemed to grant a more frightening effect. The man sitting on the chair seemed to be sweating all his bodily fluids away. He debated with himself whether it would be disrespectful to turn away from that gaze...but those eyes, dark as they were...he didn't know how he managed to meet them for so long as he did.
"Please forgive me Mr. Devauld..." said the man stuttering through half his words, but a raised hand from Shawn quickly silenced him.
"I said i'm tired of them...so if you can't say anything else. I suggest you be quiet." The man half-opened his mouth but then snapped it shut quickly. Obviously he had nothing else to say.
Shawn slowly stood up, there seemed to be a darkness around him. That was a trick that he learned from his father...fear was a very useful tool. And when you were a crime lord, and had demonic blood seeping through your veins, fear was something you had plenty to throw around. He walked around the desk towards the bar situated at the far end of the room.
There were no other sounds except his foot steps and the crackling of the fire place. The other man just watched as Shawn poured a milk and vodka into the same glass, being almost mechanical as he fixed himself a White Russian. He slowly turned around to meet the man again. He just sipped at his drink, saying nothing.
It seemed like hours, but suddenly the man jumped off the chair and prostrated himself at Shawn's feet. "It wasn't my fault sir! Please, please"
Shawn's lips tightened as he looked at the lapel of his jacket, the man's actions had caused him to spill some of the drink. He didn't like messes, he didn't like incompetent henchmen, and most of all he didn't like excuses. He trained his gaze on the crackling fire place, and immediately a gigantic maw erupted from within and consumed the man.
The man was charred in seconds, and with a command of his will he swept the flames into nothingness. Shawn's lips tightened even further at seeing the ashes on his carpet...he really didn't like messes.
